Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation originated with Jesus when He said to the apostles,  “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (John 20:21-23). Through Apostolic Succession this power to forgive sins was passed on to priests.  The priest acts as a vessel through which Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, forgives our sins. It is important to note that the priest is not forgiving sins, but that it is  God forgiving your sins through the priest who acts as a vessel of God’s Grace. The outward sign of this Sacrament is made present through the priest himself.
